Electronics Design
The electronics design of the BOOMERANG experiment can be divided into two designs, one for the Rocket Mounted Unit (RMU) and one for the two identical Free Falling Units (FFUs). The latter actually consists of two further designs, one for the Recovery Unit (RU) and one for the Bottom Unit (BU).
A lot of the electronics design is based on heritage from former experiments, developed at KTH. However, the electronics for the novel Recovery Unit are developed by the team.
Within electronics, the team takes care of the whole design process including schematics and layouts for PCBs as well as software development and manufacturing of PCBs.
Microcontrollers, PCBs, FPGAs and black magic
The electronics components include a wide variety of applications and entails from programming of microcontrollers and software design, programming of FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Array), antenna design and tuning to the design and manufacturing of PCBs everything that is needed for a complex electronics system.
The electronics team consits of several specialists from the field responsible for what is considered black magic by the rest of the team ;)
